"For the City"

City Church was birthed out of a heart for the city of Huntington. When Phil and Stephanie Smith graduated from Marshall University and shortly thereafter left West Virginia for Kentucky, they never thought they'd return. But God had different plans and in the summer of 2016, after a few years of wrestling with the idea, Phil gave voice to the desire to go back home to plant a church and start a business for the good of the city.

Somewhat to his surprise, Phil's idea caught some traction. After spending the summer praying, a team of 6 adults and 7 kids had committed their lives to plant a disciple-making, church-planting church in Huntington. Three families whose lives had been changed by a disciple making movement at NorthEast Christian Church would sell their homes, give up careers, and say good-bye to family to see that movement multiply in Huntington, Appalachia, and beyond.

LEADERSHIP TEAM
City Church is led by a plurality of elders - a team of volunteer leaders and their wives - who give their time and talents to helping shape, direct, and build the congregation toward the goal of equipping everyone for effective participation in mission and ministry. The church has no paid employees and relies on the shared efforts of our leadership team and a dedicated family of mission-minded members who collectively work to see the Gospel saturate our city, region, and beyond.
